About
Cornelius Cardew began his career as an assistant to Karlheinz Stockhausen and would go on to develop highly influential graphic scores such as ‘Treatise’, join free improvising group AMM in 1966 and found The Scratch Orchestra with Michael Parsons and Howard Skempton in 1969. In the 1970’s Cardew became a devout Marxist-Leninist and began to compose explicitly political music. During this time he would tour Ireland with his People’s Liberation Music group making connections with a myriad of activists.
These concerts will present selections from his experimental period (1960-70): three graphic scores alongside two traditionally notated pieces. Our first concert will present chamber and solo works while our second concert will present selections from ‘Treatise’.
