ddr. NEW STUDIO LAUNCH!

Dublin Digital Radio are launching their new radio studio in Flux, 4 Chatham Row on Imbolc, the 1st of February. Our studio will be open to the public and broadcasting live DJs and performances from 12pm until 8pm. The music will be broadcast out onto the street outside from Chatham Row’s beautiful courtyard, the music spreading over the surrounding area like Brigid’s cloak. We’ll have food provided by friends of ddr., a discussion from ddr. members on developing sustainable alternative cultural spaces through radio, and for the day that’s in it, tattoo artist @silvio.hood will also be providing Brigid’s cross tattoos to those who really want to memorialise the occasion.

Music on the day will come from ddr. residents broadcasting their regular scheduled shows, and will also include live performances from ddr. Residents and friends. We will be resharing old radio work commissioned previously for Alternating Current and Dublin Fringe in the Gallery Space, delving deep into the station’s rich archive for a new collective listening experience, as well as screening Resonant Frequency, @johnny_savage beautiful short documentary on the station.

The launch of the new studio is an incredibly exciting time for the station. The location, in the heart of the city centre, and the accessibility it offers the alternative cultural scenes that ddr. platform and champions to the public is something that hasn’t really been on offer in Dublin city in recent memory. So often these communities can only exist on the edges. Due to the housing and space crisis in Ireland, it is almost unfathomable that a listener funded, volunteer run organisation like ddr. could have such a central home. We are incredibly grateful to @flux_dublin for providing this space to us, and for the cultural space they are trying to establish on Chatham Row, with love and care for the city around it.
