What does it mean to be Queer online? After marking the 50th anniversary of Dublin Pride last year, it is now time to look to the future. As our physical world becomes ever increasingly intertwined with its online counterpart, so do the Queer lives which inhabit it. Since the early days of chat rooms and forums offering Queer people the chance to connect and explore identities, to the present array of social media, live streaming and messaging apps, the internet has forever changed how Queer people interact and organise. In our current era of hyperconnectivity, surveillance capitalism and digital resistance, it is an important moment to reflect on our digital heritage but also envisage how Queer communities can fit into and shape future digital landscapes.
Join us for "Queering the Airwaves: The Digital Age," an initiative by Dublin Digital Radio, that aims to platform LGBTQ+ voices, organisations and activists, exploring the culture of Queer communities and how they manifest both online and off. "Queering the Airwaves'' invites individuals and groups, regardless of experience, to submit proposals for radio programming during the week leading up to Pride 2025. Dublin Digital Radio invites proposals of all natures - mixes to revolutionise the dance floor, explorations of Queer digital identities, broadcasts of digital manifestos for Queer futurism and anything and everything in between.
Dublin Digital Radio serves as an independent platform, providing an alternative media outlet for our community. ddr. is wholly funded by its members ensuring that it remains independent of corporate influence and is run democratically by its growing community.
Submit your proposal through this link before the deadline of the 2nd of June.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us at programming@dublindigitalradio.com. Information about last year's edition of Queering the Airwaves is available here.
Together, let's Queer the Airwaves, and shape Queer futures online and off.
